' Today the Inst of the iron fenco sur rounding the capital was removed. It Indeed looks odd to us-who are so ac customed to seeing the heavy enclosure. The metallic ceiling that was ordered to replace the old ceiling in the Supreme court room has been put in place, and is very handsome. A plan is on foot to lease a piece of property on the street, car line, and equip a handsome Athlelic Park and Bicycle race track. Ruleigh now has no athletic park. - Sheriff Jones on Saturday made return to the Supreme Court of the writ of pnsecssion issued by the Court, Decem ber, 23, 1807 directing the Sheriff of Wake to put Messrs. An expert accountant has been at work on them, but is puzzled to see how he is to come out. The first two years of Treasnrer Knights service Mr. Riggsbee ot Durham ran the office. All papers were signed "per Riggsbee" until the man was actually culled "per" Riggsbee. It was a queer kind of an arrangement by which a Durham county man run Wake county finances. I notice that Judge Walter Clark lias an article golni the rounds of the press 'If Christ should come on earth." The Spanish Cabinet has been appre hensive of some such movement. The late agitation in the House has caused a feeling in Madrid that the Cuban sympa thizers would insist upon a war with Spain and tho public press of Madrid has been full of the subject for some days. The attendance is unusually large in both branches, and the opposition leaders are watching each other. The number of consultations the President has had with prominent mem bers of his party, also indicates the prob ability of some move on his part. Owing to the Teller resolution, the Senate will not devote much time to the annexation treaty this week. Its fate is still in doubt.
